Daniel Peter Dalicsek

I studied Ancient and Medieval History and Culture at Trinity College, Dublin and wrote my Bachelor thesis about the Effects of Roman Military Campaigns into Germania under the Julio-Claudians. My degree was a joint-program between the departments of Classics, History and History of Art and Architecture. I spent two semesters at the Université de Fribourg, Switzerland. I followed my interest in archaeology and military history first, to then continue with a master’s degree in Maritime archaeology at the University of Southern Denmark. I wrote my Master thesis on The Navigational Instruments from the HMS St George. Since graduating in 2015, I have done 13 complete shipwreck excavations and documented several others. I have also excavated and surveyed several submerged Stone Age sites. I worked for the Landesamt für Kultur und Denkmalpflege Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum, the Museum of Southeast Denmark, Museum of Copenhagen and recently the National Historical Museums, Sweden.

At the most recent project I am leading the excavation and complete documentation of three 17th-century shipwrecks from Gothenburg.

As a practically minded maritime archaeologist I sail classical vessels, tall ships and Viking ships and build and repair wooden boats.

I hope to contribute to the TIMBER project using my broad extracurricular and professional backgrounds.
