Linking workshop in Copenhagen

Workshop

During the last week, the entire Mapping Freedom team met for a linking workshop at the Danish National Archives in Copenhagen.

The purpose of the workshop was to exchange knowledge, train, and align on best practices for linking the various types of sources (census records, parish records, passenger lists) we use for the Mapping Freedom database.

In addition to hard work at the archives and intense conversations about developing the dataset on the population of the U.S. Virgin Islands between 1841 and the early 1900s, we also managed to see Copenhagen and experience ten days of December greyness.

Despite a distinct lack of a clear sky, the workshop is a great success, showing what we can do when we collaborate about the history of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
