"The Shock of the Old/New?" conference brought together international specialists on the Greek sculptures translocated to Rome and other places as well as the wider debate on ‘things Greek’ in the Roman world. The first part of the conference focused on the challenges arisen by the current paradigm for addressing the itinerant Greek sculptures in Roman times. Following up on this ‘deconstruction’, the second part proposed new and innovative frameworks to analyze these impactful objects and the wider phenomenon of the re-use of Greek statues in a Mediterranean perspective.
