In connection with her appointment, Frida Hastrup says:

- There is plenty to do in relation to the green agenda, also for ethnologists and other humanists. So, I am really looking forward to continuing the work at the Centre for Sustainable Futures, where we work with climate and environmental issues across Saxo's disciplines, also involving students.

An interdisciplinary approach to climate and environmental issues

Frida Hastrup has just completed a major interdisciplinary research project on cattle production in Denmark, which has integrated ethnology, anthropology, agronomy and veterinary science into a comprehensive analysis of how such a climate-intensive sector deals with sustainability. And now she has embarked on some new collective projects, including on forestry, soil health measurements and land use in light of the green tripartite agreement. In the latter, Frida Hastrup will, among other things, take a closer look at land ownership together with lawyers and at agricultural support schemes.

- In recent years, there has been a real surge in cross-disciplinary collaboration across the entire University of Copenhagen, and it is so meaningful to contribute ethnological insights to these conversations. So, this is a task that I am very much looking forward to taking on, she says.

Head of Department Casper Sylvester is also delighted with the appointment:

- Among other things, it is recognition of Frida's strong profile and groundbreaking work in the field of research into ecological crises – research that places humanistic perspectives, he says.

Frida Hastrup graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a Master's degree in Sociology of Religion and a PhD in Anthropology. Since 2012, she has been employed at the Saxo Institute, first as an assistant professor and, since 2015, as an associate professor.

Frida Hastrup will give an inaugural lecture later this autumn, which will be announced on the Saxo Institute's website, among other places.
