Water for Hadrian's Villa

A Survey for the Water Supply to the Imperial Villa

Invitation to lecture and book presentation with Jørgen Martin Hansen

Villa Adriana, the "Queen of Villas" of Antiquity, has been the object of lively interest since the 15th century, since the ruins of the renewed humanistic interests were recognised as such and supplanted the hitherto erroneous interpretation as "the old Tivoli". Since then, and especially with the "antiquarian" hunt for beautiful sculptures in the 17th and 18th centuries and with the excavations that followed the collection of Italy after the area was acquired as state property, research has mainly focused on the centre of the buildings.

However, in J. M. Hansen's work, the refined and complex water system in the enormous plant is at the centre. This aspect allows for a fundamentally new understanding of the plant.

After the lecture, there will be a small reception.
