The Rule of Law, the Humanities and History
The conference is devoted to interdisciplinary links between law and the humanities, examined in the context of the legal culture in Poland under communism. We will host a two-panel discussion of the most recognized scholars in the disciplines combining law and culture. The first part of the conference will analyse the concept of the rule of law within the literary aspect, whereas the second part will cover the cinematic approach towards the question.
The focal point of our debate will be to examine the extent to which the various literary and cinematic works are capable of reflecting the legal culture of societies, as well as to investigate the differences between the rule-of-law environment of Central-Eastern Europe and that of Western Europe. Our speakers will discuss the question of whether and how the Polish example and its consecutive way to democracy might help formulate more general conclusions about the further implementation of EU legal norms in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe, as well as understand the legal culture of new democracies.
