Research: brief description

Stig Poulsen is associate professor in clinical psychology at the Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen. His main research focus is psychotherapy studied from various perspectives and he is currently the coordinator of the Center for Psychotherapy Research at the Department of Psychology.

Together with Susanne Lunn, Stig Poulsen has been the principal investigator on a randomized controlled trial of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and cognitive behavior therapy for bulimia nervosa (Poulsen et al., American Journal of Psychiatry 2014) and he is currently involved in a number of other randomized controlled trials of psychotherapy for various psychiatric conditions. His research interests cover both quantitative and qualitative approaches to research and he has conducted several studies of client experience of psychotherapy. The current focus of his research is practice based approaches to psychotherapy research and he is collaborating with the Danish Regions and the Danish Psychological Association on a study of outcome and therapist responsiveness in psychotherapies by psychologists in the Danish Practice Sector.

Stig Poulsen is currently President Elect of the European section of the Society for Psychotherapy Research and was local host of the international meeting of the Society for Psychotherapy Research in Copenhagen 2014. He is a board member of the Danish Depression Database and has been appointed as member of several commitees by the Danish Psychological Association.
