Aske Juul Lassen


I am a Danish ethnologist who specialise in ageing studies from an everyday life perspective, with a ph.d. from the Centre for Healthy Ageing, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen about active ageing. I am engaged in the establishment of the Copenhagen Centre for Health Research in the Humanities at the ethnology department of the SAXO-Institute, and am editor of the research journal Gerotologi. My research focus is on the way active ageing circumscribes old age from a period of passivity to a life phase filled with activity, engagement and societal participation.

Current research

Through the Centre for Healthy Ageing ( and the CALM project ( I work with the ways ageing and old age is configured in specific ways through active ageing. I engage in innovation work focused on food and exercise through the CALM project, and intervention work focused on co-creation through the Centre for Healthy Ageing.
